What Customers Say About DeLonghi DC50B Twenty Four Seven Drip Coffee Maker, Black:

I did know that I hated that scorched taste of coffee that had been on a burner too long, and that's what led me to the DeLonghi 4 cup model 3-4 years ago. I use the carafe from the old one, brew a pot, and then turn off the switch as soon as it's done (it doesn't seem like it would auto shut off by the way, just fyi). So if you liked the old one, I think you find the new one as good or better, especially if you still have the old pot (who knows, you may find one on some website if everyone's switch is going bad). Anyway, I have gone back for a second cup after 30 minutes and the metal carafe does a good job, no scorched taste but still hot. Here are things I noticed. Unfortunately, last week the electric switch (button) failed on me after 3 years of daily use, much like other postings.

I wanted a 4-cup without a burner, and hopefully a cone filter (I had done the black and decker types back in college and just prefer the cone filter, besides scorching I had one that made coffee that had a plastic like aftertaste). When I read the reviews on the new Delonghi, it scared me off, but after finding no real alternatives with the thermal carafe and no burner, I came back to it and am glad I did. I love coffee, but would not consider myself an expert. Never tried it and more expensive ($80), but for something you keep for 3+ years, it was highly reviewed by everyone and still looked pretty small (thermal carafe, no burner). Finally, the switch is not electric, it is an actual mechanical switch, which makes me think the switch failure happened a lot, so they put in a more simple and dependable one in the new model. It looks just like the old one, the coffee tasted great, and is noticeably hotter right after brewing (In reading all the reviews for other models-this seems to be key for great flavor). I almost went that way, but feel fortunate I went back to the DeLonghi.

Also someone noticed the reusable mesh filter would jam up with fine grounds. I loved it for the thermal carafe and no burner, and it made a great cup of coffee. If that isn't your situation, after reading for a good part of a Saturday morning, the 8 cup Zohiruchi (sp). The carafe is glass, but as noted it an earlier post, if you have the old stainless steel one it fits perfectly. That filter is removable, and the part it sits in is identical to the old one (I hadn't thrown it away yet), so I just removed the mesh filter insert and kept using disposable filters for easy clean up. on amazon was my second choice. I hope this helps.

I love this machine. I do however tend to leave them on for too long in the morning. If they lasted forever, it would be the perfect coffee machine for a single person. But, I just bought the third one in about four years. They seem to last one to two years, then burn out. I might add, that I've had much the same problem with most other smaller coffee machines that I've tried. They used to come with a stainless decanter, that I still use, from the first one I bought.I still love it.

Do not do that.Like all makers with the steal-a-cup feature, if one only partially inserts the carafe then the valve will not open and coffee and grounds will overflow. Later mid-morning coffee is managed by making a fresh pot of great tasting coffee (I prefer Community Club Dark Roast). One has a tendency to grip the carafe handle with ones fingers and rest ones thumb above on the flip-up lid lever (This is similar in sprit to riding the brake in your vehicle).

The first had the dewar flask carafe and no warmer and the coffee wasn't really hot enough. Lots of microwave action for second cups with that one.

This fine looking little device is the second Delonghi 4-cup coffee maker that I have owned. The first lasted nearly three years before the switch failed, more than acceptable for this inexpensive and reliable little unit.It makes coffee fast and strong and just the right amount for a quick big mug to wake up and another after my morning dog walk.

This one has the glass carafe and a warmer; MUCH Better. It has the permanent filter but I put in a paper filter anyway.

The effect is to raise the lid just enough for the coffee to pour out all around the lip of the carafe and the result is spilled coffee while pouring. Do not do that either.I would recommend it to tho others (I have) and I would buy it again (I did).

I would not recommend buying this coffee maker. Getting the water into the reservoir is a clumsy feat at best. But worse, when pouring the last third of the hot coffee out of the pot, the lid falls open allowing the steam to scald your knuckles. I wish I could have gotten another Krups 4-cup but they've stopped making them.

This is my second DeLonghi and I'm completely satisfied with this product. Only replaced the original to satisfy my wife.warming plate was a little burned from coffee drips over the years.
